AGE GROUPS - The event is only open to Primary School pupils in Primary 6 and Primary 7. No-one in Primary 5 or in 1st Year of Secondary education is allowed to compete.

Times are only approximate. Each race will follow on from the completion of the previous one.

 

 

ENTRY CONDITIONS

Each school may enter a 'B' (second string) team. If a school does not have enough boys or girls to make both a P6 and P7 team, then both age groups may be comined - in Races 3 and 4 (as in the Cross-Country Championships). Each team consistes of 3 runners. Individual runners cannot be entered as this is a team event but, if very small schools cannot enter teams, then, in exceptional circumstances, they can amalgamate. Please phone Linda Trotter, Secretary, before doing this. At this stage, schools do not have to name the runers in their teams. They merely have to indicate which races and how many teams they are entering. The names of the competing runenrs, in running order, with dates of birgh, muist be submitted on the day of the Championships, on the forms which will be sent out on reciept of entry.

The course, which is approximately one mile in length, is flat tarmac/ashphalt/grass and is not suitable for spikes, which must not be worn. Each pupil will runa complete alp of the course. Take-over is by touch, not baton. The course is open for inspection from 11.15 am. School numbers will be provided but pupils should bring their own saftey pins for the numbers on the front and back of their running vests.

 

CHANGING FACILITIES

Changing and showering facilities are available, but, where possible, competitors should come changed. Valuables shoudl not be left in the changing rooms, which must be left clean and tidy.

 

ENTRY FEES AND ENTRIES

Entry fees are £8 per team. Please make cheques payable to "The Scottish Schools' Athletic Association" or "SSAA". Entries will not be accepted after Friday, 11 October 2002. Entry forms and entry fees should be sent to Linda Trotter, Secretary. On receipt of entry, each school will be sent a map of the course, final instructions and team declaration sheets. This can only be done efficiently if schools enclose a stamped addressed envelope (9"x4").

 

AWARDS

Runners in the first, second and third teams in each race will receive an SSAA medal. The winning team in each race will receive a trophy, to keep for one year. All competitors will be given a certificate, to be completed by their teacher.

 

ACCOMPANYING ADULT

All schools must name the adult who is travelling with the team, in case of any emergency. If possible, schools are asked to nominate an adult prepared to officiate, if necessary. No experience is required.

 

RESTRICTION

No pupil may compete in a Primary and Secodary event in the same school session - ie, no pupil competing in this event may compete in the Secondary Schools' Cross-Country Championships in March.

 

 

PLEASE NOTE THAT PACING OF RUNNERS IS NOT ALLOWED AND COULD LEAD TO DISQUALIFICATION.
